The Keio 5000 series (京王5000系) is a commuter electric multiple unit (EMU) train type on order by the private railway operator Keio Corporation in Japan for entry into service in the Tokyo area from spring 2018.[1] A total of five ten-car trainsets are to be built by J-TREC.[1] The trains will feature rotating seats that can be arranged longitudinally for daytime services and in forward-facing transverse pairs for reserved-seat commuter services in the evenings.[1]
Design
The fleet of five ten-car 5000 series trainsets will be built by Japan Transport Engineering Company ("J-TREC") at a total cost of approximately JPY10 billion.[1][2]
Interior
Passenger accommodation will consist of rotating pairs of seats that can be arranged in longitudinal configuration for regular daytime services or in transverse forward-facing configuration for reserved-seat evening commuter services from Shinjuku in Tokyo to Keio Hachioji and Hashimoto.[2] LED lighting will be used in the interiors, and pairs of LCD passenger information screens will be provided both above the doorways and suspended from the ceilings.[1] Free WiFi and AC power sockets will be provided.[1] Space for wheelchairs and pushchairs will be provided in each car.[1]
History
Details of the new trains were officially announced in March 2016.[1]
