Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kanjikode

Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kanjikode is a Senior Secondary School (Std 1-12) affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi and functions under the purview of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), an autonomous government body.

Located at Kanjikode, Palakkad, Kerala; the sprawling campus is spread over 8.6 acres (35,000 m2) of land. A well qualified staff of teaching and non-teaching makes this vidyalaya a premier institution in academic excellence and co-curricular activities of this region.

History

Established in the year 1986, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kanjikode caters to the educational needs of the children of floating population such as the employees of central government offices, defence personnel, ex-service men and other transferable employees. The sprawling campus is spread over 8.6 acres (35,000 m2) of land provided by the school's sponsor, the Instrumentation Ltd., Kanjikode, Palakkad.

The first batch of class X and class XII students passed out during the years 1991 and 1993 respectively.
Presently the Vidyalaya has a strength of nearly 2039 students and staff strength of 62 including Principal, teaching and non teaching members.

The Vidyalaya was designated as model Kendriya Vidyalaya in 1999-2000. Later, it was also termed as “Pilot KV”. It has been selected as mother link KV to award computer literacy, free of cost, to the children of the neighboring state government-run schools. The Vidyalaya received Certificate of Excellence from KVS for four consecutive years from 2007-2010.

Management of the school

The school is directly under the HRD department and belongs to Ernakulam region. The Vidyalaya is near the Instrumentation limited compound which administers the Vidyalaya and supports it at every instance. The present principal is Mrs. Rajeswari :P

Academics

Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kanjikode, Palakkad is run by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, an autonomous body formed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, New Delhi, as a result of the recommendations of the second pay commission. The vidyalaya is affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi.
Kendriya vidyalayas primarily caters to the need of the children of Central Government employees including defense personnel and personnel of all India service. Other floating populations are also eligible for admission to the remaining seats.
The medium of instruction is both Hindi and English; the ultimate object is to enable pupils to achieve a reasonable measure of proficiency in both languages.

The staff members of the vidyalaya are highly qualified and the quality of teaching is always high with a suitable teacher-pupil ratio. The vidyalaya follow technology-assisted teaching with the help of OHPs, LCD Projectors, video cassettes, CDs etc. All staff members are computer-trained to meet the needs of the class room. KVS keep the teacher updated with the latest trends in education by organizing various short and long duration in-service programmes and workshops. Every effort is made to provide special care and attention to bring out the best in each student. A bridge course is available to class V students who appear the CBSE, class X to equip themselves for meeting the needs of the +2 level. Also, remedial classes are arranged for students who are in need of them.

School timings

All classes : 08.50 am to 02.40 pm.
Lunch break : 11.30 –12.00 pm.
Academic year: April 1 to March 31.
