Kevin Kelton
Kevin Kelton (born Long Island, New York) is a television writer whose credits include Saturday Night Live, Night Court, Boy Meets World and other network series. He has also written articles and essays for National Lampoon.[1] Kelton is the younger brother of the comedian Bobby Kelton,[2] who appeared regularly on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson during the 1970s and '80s. He has now dedicated his life to his two children.
Early career
Kelton began his career while in college, writing for his brother Bobby's act and spending his summer vacations doing stand-up at The Comic Strip and The Improv in New York City. After college he moved to Los Angeles and continued doing stand-up at The Improv and The Comedy Store while selling comedy material to Joan Rivers and other established stand-ups.
Television
Kelton’s first TV writing job was on the syndicated game show Face the Music.[2] He quickly segued to sketch comedy, joining the writing staff of the ABC late-night sketch show Fridays!.[3] He went on to write for a string of sketch comedy series before being hired by Saturday Night Live as a staff writer at the beginning of the 1983-84 season.[4] Among the sketches he penned for SNL were Jim Belushi as a manic Bobby Knight-style high-school chess coach and Billy Crystal as Prince singing his defiant response to the "We Are the World" video titled "I Am Also the World".
Kelton spent two seasons at SNL, earning an Emmy nomination (with the rest of the writing staff),[5] then returned to Los Angeles, where he transitioned to sitcom writing and producing.
