Kismayo Airport (IATA: KMU, ICAO: HCMK),[5] also known as Kisimayu Airport, is an international airport serving Kismayo, the capital city of the Lower Juba region in Somalia.[1][6] It is located in southern Jubaland, an autonomous region in Somalia.[7]
In August 2013, the Kismayo Airport was officially brought under the Juba Interim Administration. Per agreement, management of the facility is scheduled to be transferred to the Federal Government of Somalia after a period of six months. Revenues and resources generated from the airport will also be earmarked for Jubaland's service delivery and security sectors as well as local institutional development.[7]
Facilities
The airport resides at an elevation of 49 feet (15 m) above mean sea level.[3] It has one asphalt paved runway designated 05/23[1] which is 3,688 metres (12,100 ft) long.[2]
