Langdeau Site is an archaeological site in Lyman County, South Dakota, near Lower Brule, South Dakota. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1964.[1][3]
At the time of the designation in 1964, it was stated:
Possibly the earliest reliably dated village of the Missouri Trench, Langdeau Site represents the full emergence of the Plains Village Traditions in the Middle Missouri cultural area. It is also a cultural intrusion of organized village people with highly adaptive strategies, including horticulture, into an area previously occupied by hunter/gatherers.[1]
