Laura Twomey is an Irish camogie player who made her senior championship debut for Dublin in 2009. She has won a Leinster Schools title in 2008, and in 2009 was a key member of the Naomh Mearnóg team that won the Dublin Senior Championship title for the first time. Laura has also won championship titles with her club at Under 16 and Junior B levels. Laura's sister Miriam is also a member of the Dublin senior camogie panel.[1]

A student of Dublin City University, Laura graduated in 2012 with a degree in PE & Biology. Having shown an aptitude for research, she began a PhD. Turning her attention to platelet biology, Laura began many, many platelet assays using the precious blood of her colleagues. During the summer of 2013, Laura embarked on an ambitious data collection program in the Science Gallery, Trinity College, Dublin. The exhibition, entitled “Fat Lab”, saw Laura use members of the public to practice her blood drawing technique - much to the relief of her long-suffering (& anaemic) colleagues in DCU. To promote this event, Laura made a number of media appearances, including “Morning Ireland”, “RTE News” and “Midday (TV3)”, rivaling Niall Moyna for the title of "DCU superstar supreme". On each occasion, Laura informed viewers/listeners about “sticky” platelets.[2]

Laura has served as postgraduate representative for the School of Health & Human Performance, and with the assistance of David Gaul, miraculously organised the School Ball for that year. [3]

Having retired from the laboratory, Laura now spends her days writing, currently with the use of one eye, in a roof space. She is currently missing a boat. She currently has plans to move away from her beloved Portmarnock to Howth, Co. Dublin in the autumn of 2016.
