Leslie R. Mitchell
Leslie R. Mitchell was the founder of Jamboree-on-the-Air, now considered the largest event scheduled by the World Organization of the Scout Movement annually.[1]
First held in conjunction with the fiftieth anniversary of Scouting in 1957, it was devised by Mitchell, a radio amateur with the callsign G3BHK. The 40th JOTA in 1997 celebrated its anniversary by operating the World Scout Organization call-sign from the Scout hall in Reading where the first JOTA was held.[2]
In 1978, Mitchell was awarded the 132nd Bronze Wolf, the only distinction of the WOSM, awarded by the World Scout Committee for exceptional services to world Scouting.[3]
