• William Armstrong – inventor of the hydraulic accumulator and breech-loading, rifled artillery.^[1]
• Edwin Beard Budding – inventor of the lawnmower.
• Nigel Gresley – chief engineer of the LNER who invented the Gresley conjugated valve gear.^[2]
• Christopher Hinton – chief engineer at ICI who worked on the first nuclear power plant, Calder Hall.^[3]
