Liu Zhaodi aka Ah Di was given away to relatives when she was young as her family could not afford to feed her. In the 80s, Ah Di’s adoptive parents forced her to marry Xu Zhongzheng, the boss of a garment factory. She had a budding romance with truck driver Huang Dake then and planned to elope with him but when he fell into a sand pond and presumed dead, she married Zhongzheng with a heavy heart. | |||

Zhongzheng has always trusted Ruiji and Yuxi and leaves the running of the factory to the both of them but little does he know that they have been siphoning factory funds and even have an affair behind his back. When he discovers the truth, he asks them to resign on the account of their long-standing friendship but is killed instead in a freak accident. | |||

Ah Di is the major suspect behind Zhongzheng’s murder but she manages to prove her innocence with the help of Xie Zhi'an, the inspector in-charge of her case. Ruiji and Yuxi are sentenced to jail. Ruiji begs Ah Di to adopt his and Yuxi’s daughters, Yuanfang and Shanshan. Ah Di magnanimously agrees. Yuanfang appears to be obedient to Ah Di on the surface but harbours a deep hatred towards her as he father had reminded her to seek revenge for him. On the other hand, Shanshan is a rebellious girl while Zhongzheng’s daughter, Siwen, is a kind-natured girl. | |||

With the factory burnt down, Ah Di struggles to raise the girls who are not of her own flesh and blood. She decides to become a dance hostess when she has to pay off mounting medical bills. On her first day at work, she nearly bumps into Dake but she gets acquainted instead with Hong Keqin, the boss of a soya sauce factory, when a fight breaks out at the bar. | |||

Keqin helps Ah Di pay for Shanshan’s medical bills and even offered her a job at his factory and accommodation for her and the kids. Ah Di bumps into Fu Shuangjie, an orphan at the sand pond while mourning for Dake. Shuangjie has a sleeping disorder and will fall asleep without any warning. Shuangjie follows Ah Di back to the factory and begs her to adopt him. | |||

Ah Di adopts Wufeng, the daughter of her best friend. On Ah Di’s birthday, Keqin intends to propose to Ah Di and hides a ring into a longevity bun but Yuanfang secretly throws the ring away. Keqin mistakenly thinks Ah Di has eaten the bun and thus has accepted his proposal. He does up his will to leave the factory to Ah Di but she refuses and claims she has never seen the ring. Keqin is taken aback and both get into a car accident. | |||

Ah Di is severely injured and the kids fold 100 paper cranes to pray for her to regain consciousness. Siwen tries to protect Shuangjie when his sleeping disorder kicks in and gets injured by falling shelves, causing her hearing to be affected. Ah Di finally regains consciousness but Siwen discovers she can no longer hear anything. The doctor advises she will gradually lose her hearing. Shuangjie feels guilty and swears to stay by Siwen to take care of her. | |||

The kids have all grown up. Ah Di learns Keqin has contracted a terminal illness and decides to marry him. Keqin is shattered when Yuanfang tells him of his illness and he cancels the wedding. Ah Di turns up nonetheless at the Registry of Marriages on the appointed day to wait for him. Touched by Ah Di’s sincerity, he decides to turn up but suddenly he fell off the roof and plunges to his death. | |||

Shuangjie is disheartened when he is unable to find a job because of his sleeping disorder. Siwen comforts him and brings him to learn pottery making to encourage him. Shanshan is jealous when she sees both of them behaving intimately. | |||

Keqin left the factory to Ah Di while his fixed assets, stocks and cash go to Jinzhi. A furious Jinzhi decides to hire a lawyer to fight her case to get the factory back. She even cajoles the management team and supervisors at the factory to go on strike to force Ah Di to hand the factory over. | |||

Ah Di and Yuanfang discover Shuangjie and Siwen behaving intimately and realised that both of them are dating. Ah Di does not object to both of them dating and even urges Yuanfang to marry Shanhe soonest. | |||

Yuanfang is unhappy Ah Di manages to overcome yet another obstacle with everyone's support. She has constantly reminded herself over the years not to be affected by Ah Di's kind and persevering nature but she can't help worrying for her at times too. Yuanfang has mixed feelings about marrying Shanhe. Shanhe is envious of her strong bond with her family although they are not related to her by blood. Yuanfang flares up when she discovers Shanhe does not understand her at all and starts to fall for Dake when he showers her with concern. | |||

Shanshan temporarily puts up at Chunsheng's home after being beaten up by her enemies. Shuangjie denies it when Chunsheng points out that he likes Shanshan. Shanshan dreams of Shuangjie being beaten up and asks for him in tears. Shuangjie rushes over and Siwen chances upon them hugging. | |||

Shuangjie tries to deny his feelings for Shanshan and even brings Siwen to see her, causing Shanshan to be dejected. Despite this, Shuangjie is still concerned about Shanshan's feelings and can't help but to be concerned for her. Siwen confides in Yimin about her fears of Shuangjie leaving her. Yimin hints to Siwen about his feelings for her but she doesn't realise it. | |||

Dake is reunited with Ah Di. Ah Di feels Dake's sincerity when he tells her of his longing for her. Yuanfang looks Dake up at the travel agency and he excitedly tells her he has reunited with his first love. A dejected Yuanfang trails him secretly and discovers Dake's first love is actually Ah Di. | |||

Yuanfang decides to come in between Ah Di and Dake. She feigns drunkenness and confesses to Dake of her feelings for him. Ah Di is worried when Yuanfang goes missing after her failed suicide attempt. Yuanfang lets Wufeng see her deranged state so that she can bring Ah Di to look for her. Ah Di reprimands Yuanfang and she pretends to awake from her stupor and follows Ah Di home. Yuanfang is secretly overjoyed when Ah Di tells Dake she wants to break up with him. | |||

Dake bumps into Yuanfang at a resort in Indonesia while on a business trip. Lizhen informs Ah Di to look for Dake at the resort and she is heartbroken when she discovers Dake and Yuanfang in bed. Dake tries to clear the air but Ah Di insists he takes responsibility for Yuanfang. | |||

Jinzhi spots the pregnancy test kit Yuanfang left behind and hurriedly informs Ah Di of Yuanfang’s pregnancy. Yuanfang does not deny it when Ah Di assumes she is pregnant. Ah Di informs Dake of Yuanfang’s pregnancy and Jinzhi wants him to marry Yuanfang within a month. | |||

Everyone is stunned when Zhi'an exposes Yuanfang’s deed of drugging Dake and her fake pregnancy. Yuanfang intends to leave home but Ah Di wants her to stay to face her mistakes. Yuanfang pretends to be touched by Ah Di and agrees to stay but she swears not to let Ah Di off. | |||

Siwen is shocked and scared when Yimin expresses his feelings for her. Ah Nan bars him from returning to the factory to work. Siwen returns to work on tenterhooks, not knowing Yimin will secretly sneak into the factory to retrieve the ornament meant for her. When he discovers Siwen in the factory, he tries to drag her away and accidentally strangles her to death. | |||

Ah Di’s mind goes blank when her gut feeling tells her it is Shuangjie who killed Yimin. While recording his statement, Shuangjie says he saw Yimin strangling Siwen but denies killing him. Ah Di takes the rap for Shuangjie, saying she killed Yimin to protect Shuangjie from getting hurt. | |||

Wufeng overhears Yuanfang and Yuxi’s conversation and discovers Yuanfang to be the real murderer. When she threatens to call the police, Yuxi knocks her out. Wufeng suffers a severe concussion and falls into a coma. Zhi'an realises something is amiss when Dake reveals to him about discovering blood on Yuanfang’s clothes and her she harassing him on the day of Siwen’s murder. | |||

Yuanfang is preparing to leave and is stunned when she sees Wufeng. Shuangjie and Shanshan tell Yuanfang that Wufeng is dead, leaving her running away in fear only to see Wufeng’s shadow again in a dark alley. Yuanfang admits to killing Yimin and causing harm to Wufeng. |
