Luis Castro (TV Producer and Documentary Director)

Luis Oswaldo Castro Montero (born April 5, 1973) is Venezuelan-British TV producer and documentary director based in London.

His experience in the audiovisual field includes more than 60 productions, from TV documentaries, TV formats, news items and interviews broadcast by major international networks.[1]

Won an Honorific Recognition at the Havana Film Festival 2013 for his documentary "Chávez".[2]

More than 15 years experience in the field covering stories all over the world in Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Nicaragua, Cuba, Pto. Rico, Dominican Republic, México, USA, Hawaii, Spain, France and of course the United Kingdom.

His work covers current affairs, social issues, esports, football, baseball, business, animations.[3]

Life and career

Castro was born in Venezuela, Caracas on April 5, 1973. He was educated at Central University of Venezuela Five-year degree covering 54 subjects related to media and production (equivalent to an English 2.1). Information was the key focus of his academic life and the way to access and obtain it was the priority of the lecturers' philosophy. Some of his highest marks are in topics regarding information, such as "Media and New Media", "Research Methods", "Radio" and "Sports Journalism". Later he studied sports journalism at Simón Bolivar University. In 2003 Luis Castro moved to London and continue his education at London Academy of Media and Williams College London.

During his role as a Production Manager was responsible for more than 30 documentaries and more than 35 TV programs in different locations around the world (USA, France, Spain, Libya, Venezuela, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Cuba, Mexico, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Hawaii among others).[4]

Television

Castro created and produced a round table current affair TV series called “Guayoyo” filmed in 12 countries in Latin America.[5]

He developed, produced and directed a docu-reality format for GinxTV focusing this time on eSports personalities. The series is called "IRL" and the first season is already running on GinxTV available on channel 470 on Sky UK.

Currently he has developed a Docu-Reality TV Format that focuses on the real lives inside Football "Fuera del Área", Esports and the Adult Industry.

Awards

As a Documentary Director Luis Castro was awarded an "Honorable Mention of the Jury" at the 2013 Havana Film Festival for his film "Chávez" a biography film on the life and death of the Venezuelan leader Hugo Chávez.[2]
