Lynn Yew Evers is a composer and concert pianist, of Malaysian origin and based in the United States. She is best known for her album Dawn of Peace which made a debut at #2 on the Zone Music Reporter (formerly New Age Reporter or NAR) Top 100 Radio Airplay Chart.[1] Evers has also been nominated for Best New Artist by Zone Music Reporter[2] and twice for Best Solo Piano album at the Enlightened Piano Radio (EPR) Awards, in 2014 for her debut album The Falling Leaves[2] and again in 2015 for her second album Dawn of Peace[3]
Early life
Lynn Yew Evers was born and raised in Malaysia. She started playing the piano at the age of 4 when she was given a toy piano. Soon after, her mother found an old piano and arranged for Evers to take formal lessons with a piano teacher. She went on to take lessons for 16 years all the way through her college years. She started composing her own music when she was 9 years old. Her first composition was titled "Two Little Black Birds" based on a poem she learnt in school. Evers also played the flute during her high school days. She has a younger sister who is also a pianist and an older brother who plays the violin.[4]
Career
Evers gave her first performance when she was 6 years old.[5] She was first invited to perform for the King and Queen of Malaysia in 1988. She subsequently became their piano performer for many formal functions. She was also invited to perform for the Prime Minister and delegates. In addition to playing the piano Lynn has a background in orchestration and arranging. She has arranged numerous chamber works with a lot of musicians in Malaysia. Evers created an ensemble of eight, combining Western and Eastern musical instruments - piano, cello, double bass, Er Hu, Gu Zheng, Chinese bamboo flute and percussion. The ensemble performed the music orchestrated and arranged by her. She has also arranged music for a trio, quartet and a 35-piece chamber orchestra for well known Malaysian singers. Evers has been teaching piano for 25 years during the course of which she has recorded 2 full length studio albums.[4]
She made her debut with the studio album Falling Leaves in 2010.[6] The album was nominated for Best Solo Piano album at the 2104 Enlightened Piano Radio (EPR) Awards.[2] Evers released her second studio album titled Dawn of Peace in 2012.[7] The album was produced by Will Ackerman at Imaginary Road Studios and is made up of 11 solo piano compositions.[5][8][9][10] The album made a debut at #2 on the Zone Music Reporter (formerly New Age Reporter or NAR) Top 100 Radio Airplay Chart.[1] The album was also nominated for the Best Solo Piano album at the 2015 Enlightened Piano Radio (EPR) Awards.[3] In 2015, Evers released a single titled "Without Words"[11] that featured Denika Kleinmann on cello and Jill Cathey on English horn.[12]
Evers graduated from the Trinity College of Music in London. She has cited Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Ravel as some of her favorite composers and Jim Brickman, David Foster, David Lanz, Itzhak Perlman as some of her favorite performers.[4]
Personal life
After her marriage in 2009, Evers moved to Washington State in the United States. She hails from a Chinese, Thai and Peranakan heritage and has a passion for cooking.[4]
