The song was written by Coleman, M.D. DeBarge, R. Hall, and E. Jordan. The song was released on January 1, 1995 as the second single from the album through Columbia Records/Sony Music Entertainment. The original version samples "Stay With Me" by DeBarge. The acronym M.V.P. stands for "most valuable poet".[1]
