Marc St. Jean

Marc St. Jean (French pronunciation: ​[ˈmaʁk ˌsɜ̃n.ʒɑ̃]; German pronunciation: [ˈmaʀk sɛnktˌʒo:]; born May 27, 1978 in Ottawa, Ontario) is a Canadian-German ice hockey coach and a former professional ice hockey player.

Playing career

St. Jean’s early career saw him play for the Hull Olympiques and the Hawkesbury Hawks.

He enrolled at Wayne State University in 1999 and left school in 2003.[1] Following a short stint with the Elmira Jackets during the 2002-03 OHL playoffs, he took his game to the ECHL for the 2003-04 season, turning out for the Charlotte Checkers[2] and the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies.[3]

A defenceman, St. Jean started his overseas career with German third division side Heilbronner Falken in 2004-05[4] and would stay in the country until the end of his playing days. He lists EV Landsberg, EVR Tower Stars, Tölzer Löwen, Schwenninger Wild Wings and Dresdner Eislöwen among the clubs he represented, but never played in the country’s top-tier Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL).[5][6] Statistically his best season came in 2005-06, when tallying 42 points in 47 contests for Landsberg.

St. Jean was forced to announce his retirement in 2012 due to a traumatic brain injury.[7]

Coaching career

In September 2013, St. Jean was appointed assistant coach of the Bietigheim Steelers of Germany’s second division DEL2.[8]
