Margaret Louise Skourlis

Margaret Louise Skourlis, Ms. New Jersey United States 2009 & 2010,[1][2] was born as a Greek-American on Saturday, March 14, 1981.[3]

Education

Margaret Louise Skourlis graduated the top of her Master of Business Administration Class with Beta Gamma Sigma Honors in 2010. Her various degrees include: Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Master in Political Science, American Bar Association Paralegal Certification, and Master of Business Administration[4] from Long Island University C. W. Post Campus.[5] She has studied abroad and completed the D.I.A.S. International program twice.[6]

Pageantry

When she was 20, she entered the “Miss Greek Independence Pageant”. It was there that she won her first title, “Miss Messinia 2001”. A year later, she won her second title, “Miss Melpia 2002” at the same pageant. Her final year in the pageant, she won her third title, “Miss Kalamata 2003”.[7] In addition, she participated in several other pageants including: “Miss Theartemis 2001” in Crete, Greece; “Miss A.H.E.P.A. 2005 & 2006” in New York, and “Miss Southern New York”, which was cancelled in the middle of the pageant due to severe weather conditions.[8] In 2009 & 2010, she competed and became Ms. New Jersey United States 2009 & 2010[9] with a platform to raise awareness of Multiple sclerosis for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.[10]

In the recent turn of events, she was honored to be granted as the new 2011 Pageant Director for the Ms. New Jersey United States Pageant and Ms. New York United States Pageant.[11] She ran the Crowning Dream beauty pageant[12] and was the New York pageant state director to Miss New York United States 2011, Bianca Pappas.[13]

Activism

She is a member of the Hellenic Kyklos Society. She is a member of the Daughters of Penelope for A.H.E.P.A. She was the President of the Pygmalion Maids of Athena Chapter #126 for American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association in 2006.[14] She has done Greek charity events for the Greek Children's Fund and was a member of GOYA. She was involved with the Omospondia Federation, in the Archdiocese Oratorical Contest, and attended the Pan Cretan Convention.[15]
