Marie Panthès (3 November 1871 Odessa -11 March 1955 New York) was a Russian pianist, and specialist in the romantic repertoire, especially the works of Chopin.
Biography
She was born in Odessa to French parents. She studied piano at the Conservatoire de Paris[1] with Henry Fissot and Louise-Aglae Massart-Masson,[2] where she won first prize at the age of 14. In 1897, she toured with violinist Alexander Petschnikoff.
In 1904 she began teaching at the Conservatory of Music in Geneva, then left the post in 1917 because of differences of opinion with the conservatory committee. She moved with her husband violinist Maurice Darier to Lausanne. She returned to Geneva in 1931 and taught for 20 years at the Geneva Conservatory of Music. In 1951, she retired. In 1954, she began treatment with a cancer specialist in New York, Dr. Revici.
She died on 11 March 1955 in New York. His grave is at the Cimetière des Rois in Geneva.
Among her students were Julien-François Zbinden,[3] Johnny Aubert, Isabelle Nef und Marguerite Roesgen-Champion.
