Mark Birdwhistell
Mark D. Birdwhistell (born February 4, 1955) is an American healthcare administrator who served as Secretary of the Cabinet for Health & Family Services under Governor Ernie Fletcher, the 60th Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Birdwhistell is currently Vice President for Administration & External Affairs at UK HealthCare.[1] In January 2016, he was tapped by Republican Governor Matt Bevin to design an overhaul the expansion of Medicaid effected by Bevin's predecessor, Democrat Steve Beshear, under the provisions of the federal Affordable Care Act.[2]
Birdwhistell also chairs the Board of Directors of 340B Health,[3] and is national chairman of the Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) Foundation.[4]
He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgetown College in 1977 and a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Kentucky in 1982. He resides in Richmond, Kentucky with his wife Martha.
