Matthew Stephen "Matt" Nicholls (born March 22, 1986) is a British drummer and musician, best known for being the drummer of the British band Bring Me the Horizon since 2004. Before Bring Me the Horizon, he has played in the mock hip-hop group Womb 2 Da Tomb with fellow Bring Me the Horizon member Oliver Sykes and Sykes' brother Tom.
Early life
Nicholls was born in Maltby, South Yorkshire on March 22, 1986 as Matthew Stephen Nicholls.[1] He started playing local shows as drummer for various hardcore punk bands in early 2000s until he formed Bring Me the Horizon with Oliver Sykes in 2004.[2][3] His parents divorced and his father gained custody of him and bought him a drum kit.[3]
Influences
Nicholls stated "I’m not really influenced by drummers. I’d just listen to CDs and play what they play. I’m more influenced by the ones I see on tour instead of some big drummer.”[3]
Gear and equipment
Nicholls uses SJC drums, zildjian Custom K cymbals, Roc n Soc drum throne and Evans drum skins and Vic Firth drum sticks.[4]
