The Mauritius Police Force (MPF) is the national law enforcement agency of Mauritius. The MPF carries out police, security and military functions on the island nation, with over 12,000 active-duty personnel under the command of the Commissioner of Police,[1] and operating under the aegis of the Home Affairs division of the Prime Minister's Office.[2]
Military role
As Mauritius has no standing army, the Mauritius Police are responsible for military duties on the island as well as policing and security. Military duties are performed by three paramilitary sub-agencies: the Special Mobile Force, the Special Support Unit (SSU) and the National Coast Guard (NCG).
