Michael Erush (born January 24, 1984 in Van Nuys, California) is an American soccer player who is currently the player-assistant coach of Orange County Blue Star in the USL Premier Development League.
Career
College and Amateur
Erush played four years of college soccer at Loyola Marymount University from 2000 to 2003, where he played defensive midfielder, registered six goals and sixteen assists, and garnered NSCAA All-Far West Region first team honors as a senior. During his college years he also played with the Los Angeles Heroes and Orange County Blue Star in the USL Premier Development League, and he played alongside Jürgen Klinsmann with Orange County.
Professional
Erush was not drafted by an MLS team, but was signed to the Colorado Rapids' developmental roster on March 24, 2004. He was released after an uneventful season, and re-surfaced with Chivas USA in 2005, before being released without seeing any playing time.
After a strong performance by the United States team at the 2005 Maccabiah Games in Israel, Erush signed for Hapoel Ashkelon. However, the contract was canceled before Erush played a game, and reports in the Israeli media claimed that Erush had to return to the US to take care of "personal business". He subsequently played for Miami FC in the USL First Division, appearing in 17 games for the team before being released at the end of the season.
International
Erush was a youth international, captaining the US national team in the U14-U18 age range from 1996 through 2000, and was part of the USMNT pool in 2001, but was never called up to the senior roster.
Coaching
In January 2007 was hired as an assistant coach to Paul Krumpe with the men's soccer team at Loyola Marymount University.[1]
Erush, having played with the amateur Hollywood United team in Los Angeles for several years, was hired as the first ever head coach of the Hollywood United Hitmen in the USL Premier Development League in 2009. He moved to become player-assistant coach of Orange County Blue Star in 2010.
Personal
Erush is the son of Russian immigrants, and holds both American and Russian passports.[2]
