Michael McGuinness born in Manchester, UK on 8 June 1983, is best known by his stage name Lempo. He is a British DJ, music producer and radio presenter. He founded the Applique Music record label in 2011. His music genre is House with hip-hop, electronica and swing influences.[1][2][3][4][5] [6][7]
Career
DJ Career
His DJ career began in 2006 with a residency at Sankeys in Manchester for the club brand Bitch Events. In 2010, Bitch Events relocated to Venus The Club in Manchester where Lempo remained resident DJ until October 2014. In January 2010, Lempo was voted Manchester's number one DJ on The DJ List. He presented his own radio show on Cheshire FM 92.5 from November 2010 until moving to Manchester’s Unity Radio FM 92.8 in January 2012. Lempo is a regular performer for UK club brands Ministry Of Sound, Cream and The Warehouse Project, having supported artists such as The Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, Snoop Dogg, Steve Aoki and Skrillex.[8] [9][10][11][12]
Production Career
On 28 June 2010, Lempo released his first full-length EP titled The Death of Micky Fidget on Wonked Records. On 24 April 2011 The Organ Grinder was released on Cr2 Records and in July 2011 Lempo launched his own imprint Applique Music with the labels first release, The Best Times featuring Brazilian chanteuse Angelita Jimenez which reached 2 on Trackitdown and 3 on Traxsource, supported by Eric Morillo and Roger Sanchez. On 9 January 2012, he released the single "Jack In Boots" a collaboration with Japwow on SuSu Music, featuring a vocal from Nancy Sinatra, which reached 13 in The Music Week Club Chart (UK) and 36 on Beatport. On 21 October 2013, Lempo released his debut album Done & Dusted on Applique Music, which featured collaborations with several acclaimed artists including Dirtybird Records’ Will Clarke on Sound Of The Horns, Parlophone Records remix group K-Klass on Brass Attack, The BBC’s Daniel Pemberton TV Orchestra on Leaders Of Men, along with the albums stand out track Playboy Bunny, a collaboration with producer of Craig David’s platinum selling Born To Do It album Mark (The Artful Dodger) Hill, featuring Hollyoaks actor Ashley Taylor Dawson on vocal, which reached 1 on Juno Download and 54 on iTunes, supported on BBC Radio One with plugs from Greg James and Nick Grimshaw. 2014 was spent on the Ninjury project, a collaborative alias with Japwow, producing The Fat Lady album which spawned several Juno Download Number 1 sellers including the title track which featured Fatboy Slim vocalist Roland Clark and Cowabunga which was supported by Claude VonStroke at Ultra Music Festival in Miami and plugged on BBC Radio One by Pete Tong and Danny Howard. On 13 April 2015, the single "Woo Yeah" was released on Applique Music, reaching 1 on Juno Download and 82 on Beatport. On 3 August 2015, the single Making Love was released on Applique Music featuring a vocal from X-factor Holland finalist Barry James Thomas, which reached 1 on Juno Download, 20 in the Music Week Club Chart (UK) and 32 on Beatport.
