Microwave Data Systems, Inc. is a company that makes wireless communications equipment for the industrial market. The company is often referred to using the acronym MDS. MDS was a subsidiary of Moseley Associates and was acquired, in January 2007, by General Electric Multilin. The company is now known as GE MDS, LLC.
Products include "point-to-point" and "point-to-multipoint" radios that operate in the licensed and unlicensed bands. The company is known particularly for long range communications, interference rejection, industrial quality, and high reliability.
Many products are lower data rates which allow for good operation with very low signal quality and with large amounts of interference. Most unlicensed products use frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) to provide frequency diversity which affords good operation regardless of location for stationary radios.
Products are available on ranges of frequencies around 200,400,900,1400,2400,5800 MHz and more.
