Mikael Yann Mathieu Mandron (born 11 October 1994) is a French professional footballer who plays as a forward for National League side Eastleigh.

Club career

Sunderland

After playing for lower league sides in France since the age of seven,[3] he joined Sunderland in 2011 as a 16-year-old.[4]

Following an injury to Steven Fletcher, Mandron was called into training with the first team.[5] On 30 March 2013 he was an unused substitute against Manchester United. On 29 April 2013, Mandron made his professional debut against Aston Villa coming on as an 85th-minute substitute and replacing Danny Graham in a 6–1 defeat.[6] Following this, he signed a one-year contract with the club.[7]

Ahead of the 2013–14 season, Mandron was given the number 18 shirt.[8] However, his first team chances at Sunderland were limited and on 6 January 2014, Mandron signed for Fleetwood Town on loan until the end of the season.[9] He made his Fleetwood Town debut on 11 January 2014, in a 1–0 win over Dagenham & Redbridge.[10] Mandron then scored his first professional goal on 1 February 2014, in a 2–1 loss to York City.[11] He went on to make eleven appearances before returning to his parent club in March 2014.[12]

Ahead of the 2013–14 season, Mandron switched shirt numbers from 18 to 38.[13] On 28 January 2015, he signed on a youth loan for League Two side Shrewsbury Town until the end of the season.[14] Mandron made his Shrewsbury Town debut two days later, in a 2–0 win over Newport County.[15] He managed three appearances for the club.

On 13 November 2015, Mandron joined League Two side Hartlepool United on loan until January.[16] He made his Hartlepool United debut against Leyton Orient on 15 November 2015, where he set up one of Jake Gray's goals, in a 3–1 win.[17] His performance was questioned after his failure to score a goal against Oxford United on 28 November 2015.[18] After the match, manager, Ronnie Moore defended him, though he felt he should have scored.[19] Mandron went on to make five appearances for the club before returning to Sunderland in January.[20]

At the end of the season, it was announced that he had been released by the club.[21]

Eastleigh

On 14 June 2016, Mandron signed on permanently with National League outfit Eastleigh with manager Chris Todd saying, “I’m absolutely delighted to capture Mikael. He is another young talent, who has unbelievable potential and I’m positive he will become a firm favourite with the fans.”[22] Mandron was previously linked with a move to Scottish Premiership side Partick Thistle.[23] He scored a hat-trick at Bromley on 29 August 2016.

International career

In May 2013 Mandron was called up to the Scotland U20 squad for the first time, he qualifies for Scotland through an Aberdeen-born grandparent.[24]

Born in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France, Mandron supported Real Madrid growing up.[3]
