Mima Renard

Mima Renard (died 1692, São Paulo), was an alleged Brazilian witch. The case of Mima Renard is regarded as the perhaps most famed of the Brazilian witch trials.

Mima Renard was immigrated from France to the Portuguese colony of Brazil with her spouse, René Renard, and settled in São Paulo. She was described as beautiful, and attracted great sexual attention from men. Eventually, her spouse was murdered by one of the men who was in love with her and, destitute, she was forced to turn to prostitution to support herself.[1] Women in the city accused her of enchanting her clients with magic. When two of her married clients came in to a fight, during which one of them murdered the other, the wives of her clients reported Mima Renard to the parish priest for having enchanted men by the use of witchcraft. She was judged guilty as charged and executed in public by burning.
