Mount Kelly is a fully co-educational independent day and boarding school for children between the ages of 3 and 18.[1] The current Head Master is Mark Semmence.
Mount Kelly was established in June 2014 following the merger of two neighbouring schools, Kelly College (founded in 1877) and Mount House School (founded in 1881).[2]
In 2016, the Mount Kelly Foundation announced the creation of a new international prep school in Hong Kong, Mount Kelly International School. The school is set to open in September 2017 and the Founding Head Master of Mount Kelly International School is Gary Wright.
Location
Mount Kelly is located in Tavistock, Devon, England, and is situated within the Tavy River valley on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park, between Exeter and Plymouth.[3] Positioned on the outskirts of the market town of Tavistock the school grounds consist of 140 acres of landscaped grounds, woodland, forest, green fields and a small holding.[4]
Co-curricular activities
Mount Kelly offers a co-curricular activity programme. College pupils can take part in the Combined Cadet Force, the Duke of Edinburgh Awards, the Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Race or the Ten Tors Challenge.[5]
Academic staff, in collaboration with the onsite Adventure Centre, run the Learning Outside the Classroom Programme. Children in the Pre-Prep attend a weekly Forest School activity. The Shackleton programme is run for 9 to 13 year olds and designed to give them increasingly challenging outdoor experiences.[6]
Boarding
Boarding is available on a full, day, weekly or flexible basis. Pupils can board from Year 3 to Year 8 at the Prep School. At the College, four houses are allocated; boys in Year 9-11, girls in Year 9-11, a Sixth Form boys' house and a Sixth Form girls' house respectively.[7]
Swimming
The Head Coach is former Olympian Robin Brew. Pupils and alumni have won a total of 29 Olympic and Commonwealth medals over the last 37 years and been selected for the last five Olympic and Paralympic games. Sharron Davies and Andy Jameson are two of its most celebrated swimmers.[8]
In September 2016 Mount Kelly built new 50 metre, 8 lane Olympic Legacy Swimming Pool, financed in part by Sport England[9] and the National Lottery (United Kingdom).
Inspections
The school was last inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate in March 2015.[10]

Entry requirements vary according to year group and are a combination of assessments, taster days and visits.[11]

Mount Kelly International, Hong Kong
In July 2016, the Mount Kelly School announced that it would open a new school in September 2017 at Tuen Mun’s Gold Coast in Hong Kong. The application for the school's registration to the Education Bureau was withdrawn by the school in July 2016 after delays over land use classification of the proposed site.[14]
In November 2016, Secretary for Education Eddie Ng Hak-kim said that parents should be cautious about registering with the school and that it could not call itself an International School without a successful application. Kim also confirmed that after the initial application had been withdarwn in July 2016, the school had not submitted another one.[15]
