Nadavayal (Malayalam: നടവയൽ) is a town near Sultan Bathery in Wayanad district, Kerala, India. This small town hosted early migrants from Travancore (Thiruvithaamkoor). Hardworking people turned Nadavayal to the cultural center of Wayanad. The proposed 100-hectare site for new feeder airport in the Wayanad district is in Nadavayal and the nearby Panamaram.[1]

Migration from Kottayam

Nadavayal is one of the main residential areas in the Wayanad district. Most of them are migrated from Kottayam and Idukki districts. Agriculture is the primary industry and cultivation includes pepper, coffee, ginger, vanilla, paddy, rubber, and coco.

Important Landmarks

St. Thomas higher Secondary School, one of the premier schools in the Wayanad district, is located there. Around 2000 students are studying in this school.The renowned author and activist Sri.KJ Baby established 'Kanavu'-an alternate system of education for the tribal community in the village of Nadavayal.Jose Muttam,a noted Malayalam writer resides in Kayakunnu,in the village of Nadavayal.The 1st Loco Pilot (SWR) of Wayanad, Sri. Baby Sebastian is from Nadavayal. Renowned Ethical Hacker Benild Joseph,Farmers Relief Forum Chairman Sri.A.C Varkey, Kerala Congress[J] President Sri. M.C Sebastian, Under 11 Indian Football Team player Dev Raj are few of them from this small village. Kayakkunnu, Cheengode, Nelliyambam, Kavadam and Neikuppa are the sub villages of Nadavayal.

Nadavayal town belongs to three panchayaths(Poothady,Kaniyambetta & Panamaram) and three assembly constituencies(Kalpetta, S.Bathery & North Wayanad).

Transportation

Nadavayal village can be accessed from Mananthavady or Kalpetta. The Periya ghat road connects Mananthavady to Kannur and Thalassery. The Thamarassery mountain road connects Calicut with Kalpetta. The Kuttiady mountain road connects Vatakara with Kalpetta and Mananthavady. The Palchuram mountain road connects Kannur and Iritty with Mananthavady. The road from Nilambur to Ooty is also connected to Wayanad through the village of Meppadi.

The nearest railway station is at Mysore and the nearest airports are Kozhikode International Airport-120 km, Bengaluru International Airport-290 km, and Kannur International Airport, 58 km.
