National Association Medical Staff Services
National Association Medical Staff Services (NAMSS), established in 1971, has over 5,500 members nationwide and is headquartered in Washington, D.C. The Association seeks to provide educational opportunities for its members, as well as to foster public awareness of the role of medical staff professionals in the provision of safe, effective healthcare. NAMSS followed in the footsteps of the California Association of Medical Staff Services or CAMSS which was established in 1971. Most US States have active NAMSS Affiliate Organizations.
Current work
NAMSS members are employed by hospitals, managed care organizations, ambulatory surgery centers, physician practice groups, medical insurance carriers, HMOs and many other locations. Medical staff service professionals work, along with medical and administrative leadership, to protect patients from incompetent, unskilled, impaired, or in the worst case, fraudulent healthcare providers.
NAMSS publishes Synergy, a bi-monthly e-journal.
Qualifications gained from NAMSS
NAMSS offers two professional certifications:
CPCS - Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist
CPMSM - Certified Professional Medical Services Management
