National Children's Bureau

The National Children's Bureau (NCB) is an English charity, based in Islington, London with another office in Belfast. It is primarily focused on improving the lives of children in England and Northern Ireland.

NCB supports children to have influence in decisions that affect their lives through its youth engagement projects, as well as undertaking research and policy work, and having a team focused on improving early childhood.

NCB is also an umbrella organisation and incorporates a family of councils and fora that explore a range of issues involving children and young people in England.

NCB manages the Children's Partnership with 4Children. Established in 2013, The Children’s Partnership is the voluntary and community sector strategic partner to the Department for Education, led by 4Children and the National Children’s Bureau and in collaboration with Barnardo’s, the Family and Childcare Trust, NCVYS and NSPCC.

NCB is part of the Health and Care Voluntary Sector Strategic Partner Programme which brings together voluntary and community sector (VCS) organisations. It enables VCS organisations to work in partnership with the Department of Health (DH), NHS England and Public Health England (PHE).

Leadership

NCB's chief executive (since 2014) is Anna Feuchtwang. Her predecessor from 2011 to 2014 was Dr Hilary Emery.[1] Prior to that Sir Paul Ennals, was NCB's Chief Executive from 1998.[2]

Elaine Simpson was appointed chair of NCB in September 2012, in succession to Dame Gillian Pugh.[3]

Baroness Tyler of Enfield is NCB's president. Her predecessor was Baroness Shireen Ritchie, who died in April 2012, and who had been President of NCB since November 2010.[4]
