Neon Swing X-perience
Neon Swing X-perience (NSX) was founded in 1998 by Mike Urick(trumpet/vocalist) near Jeannette, Pennsylvania. Since then, the band has been dedicated to preserving varied forms of "Americana" music - particularly those types inspired or rooted in the big bands of the 1930s and 40's.
The band has independently released five CD's and has recorded a sixth to be released for its ten-year anniversary. The new album (entitled "Here To Stay") from Phoenix Records is scheduled to be released on July 20, 2008 at Club Cafe in Pittsburgh, PA. Following the release, it will be available through various digital download sites and retail stores.
Recently, the band has seen several high points in its career including being the only swing band to ever place as a finalist in Pittsburgh's prestigious Graffiti Rock Showcase (2004), performing at the legendary Derby in Hollywood CA, having a mixed drink named after them (the Neon), completing two east coast tours, and selling out the Hard Rock Cafe on multiple occasions. The band's third tour is scheduled for the summer of 2008 and, among other venues, includes stops at Central Park in NYC and Dogfish Head Brewery.
Band members have changed significantly since 1998, but the current line-up includes: Urick, Wally "The Werewolf" Hunter (various saxes and wild instruments), Joe Palacki (drums), Steve Tomkowitz (sax), Tim Palko (bass).
