Nevada Territorial Legislature
The Nevada Territorial Legislature was established in 1861 after the establishment of the Territory of Nevada.[1]
History
The first Legislature passed a bill entitled An Act to Prohibit Gambling.[1]
During the first session, Mark Twain worked as a clerk for the legislature.[2]
On November 25, 1861, the legislature created the original nine counties:[3][4]
- Churchill County, Nevada
- Douglas County, Nevada
- Esmeralda County, Nevada
- Humboldt County, Nevada
- Lake County, Nevada
- Lyon County, Nevada
- Ormsby County, Nevada
- Storey County, Nevada
- Washoe County, Nevada
