Antonelli – who started the race from pole position – dropped to sixth on the opening lap but worked his way up the order to retake the lead on the penultimate lap, and held on to win ahead of Enea Bastianini and Brad Binder.[2][3] He added a second win later in the season at Motegi.[4] Despite crashing thrice and two no point finishes Antonelli had a total of 4 podiums in 2015 season and finished 5th at the final standings.
2016
For 2016 Antonelli was considered as one of the championship contender after he started the season with a win at the opening race in Qatar. But his crash luck continues, with two crashes, two no point finishes and one DNS in Germany due to fracture.
