North Coast Church

North Coast Church is a megachurch located in Vista, California, roughly 30 miles (48 km) north of San Diego. The church also has satellite ("video venue") campuses located in the cities of Carlsbad, Fallbrook, Escondido and Ramona. It is the largest church in the Evangelical Free Church of America denomination, with over 11,000 people in weekend attendance.[1] In 2006 it was ranked #10 on a list of the "50 most influential churches in America."[2] North Coast has two primary teaching pastors: Larry Osborne and Chris Brown. Larry Osborne has served as a Sr. Pastor and teaching pastor since 1980[3] while Chris Brown has served as a Sr Pastor and teaching pastor since 2004.[4]

Campuses

The main campus is located at 2405 N. Santa Fe Dr., Vista CA 92084. The church moved to that location in 2010 after spending 20 years in an industrial complex.[5] The church was originally founded in 1976 in a Carlsbad home.[6]

The Vista campus hosts 25 live and video venue worship options each weekend. Between all 4 campuses there are 43 worship services offered every weekend.[7] Instead of a single large sanctuary, the 40-acre campus features four separate worship venues, each of which holds less than 1000 people, and all of which can be in worship at the same time with the same sermon but different atmosphere, music and feel.[8] It took more than a decade for the church to occupy the site, delayed by environmental lawsuits. The church is built around a small group lecture/lab model that digs deeper into the topic of the weekend message. Since 1985, attendance in these small groups has equaled 80-94% of weekend adult attendance.[9]

The church also places a high emphasis on community service - averaging nearly 2 service projects per day[10] and every 18 months to 2 years, cancelling all worship services to send out worshipers to work on charitable projects throughout the community instead of attending church that weekend.[11]
