Open Systems AG is a provider of global ICT security services. The privately held company was founded in 1990 by Florian Gutzwiller.[1] It is headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland and has offices in New York and Sydney.

On 18 May 2011, the Zurich economic area section of the Swiss Venture Club announced Open Systems to be the winner of its company of the year award.[2] The award ceremony was attended by more than 2000 guests representing business, politics and academics.[3]

Open Systems ensures network security and availability. Mission control security services constantly monitor the state of its clients’ networks. The company provides services in 181 countries worldwide. Clients include governments, NGOs and companies from many industries.

The security services include different modules, each consisting of a number of components. These modules contain managed services, including basic security services such as network-level security (firewalls, virtual private networks), messaging security (malware and spam filtering, email transport encryption), and content security (distributed malware and URL filtering, SSL inspection); along with more complex services, including application security (SSL offloading, web application firewalls), authentication services (two-factor authentication with different token types, single sign-on), network intrusion detection, load balancing, and remote access.

The company is a full member of the Forum for Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST). The organization’s aim is to foster cooperation and coordination in incident prevention, to stimulate rapid reaction to incidents, and to promote information sharing among members and the community at large.[4]

In 2010, Open Systems’ workplace in Zurich was a winner in the Inc. magazine and Architizer contest for the «World’s Coolest Offices».[5] In the category «Making the Best Use of Space» the company was praised for the individual working places called People Pods.

Twice a year, Open Systems issues «360 ° – The IT Security Magazine».[6] The publication has won some of the most prestigious awards in design and communications, including a 2009 Red Dot Design Award in the communications design category and an iF communication design award.[7]

On the occasion of its 20-year anniversary, Open Systems launched Safewater.[8] This global initiative seeks to bring clean and safe drinking water to people around the world. The first activity supported by Safewater is a project run by Helvetas in Benin.
