The discography of English synthpop band Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) includes 12 studio albums and 38 singles, among other releases. Since the late 1970s, the group have cultivated a legacy as innovators within popular music, with sales of more than 40 million records to date.
OMD formed in 1978 and began issuing records the following year, entering mainstream consciousness with the five million-selling 1980 single "Enola Gay". The next year's Architecture & Morality sold over four million units; its three singles shifted a combined 8 million copies. However, the challenging Dazzle Ships (1983) eroded consumer interest in Europe. A shift toward more pop-oriented songwriting bred greater US sales, culminating in the 1986 hit, "If You Leave". In 1989, creative differences rendered frontman Andy McCluskey the band's sole member, as co-founder Paul Humphreys formed spin-off group The Listening Pool. Enlisting new bandmates, McCluskey recorded the three million-selling Sugar Tax (1991), which re-established the group as a chart commodity in the UK. Supplanted by alternative rock acts in the mid-1990s, OMD's fortunes waned, and the band were dissolved in 1996.
In 2006, OMD reformed with Humphreys back in the fold and have been releasing material from 2010 onward, while continuing to regain European chart prominence.
