P.C.T is a London-based independent recording artist/producer who primarily produces hip hop, dance and electronic music (sometimes with R&B, soul and rock influences).[1] Further to having performed in and around Greater London, P.C.T has also digitally released numerous singles, freestyles and an EP.

History

Early life (1983–2000)

Patrick Coleridge-Taylor was born on 1 December 1983 in London, England, and first took up music as a hobby during his time at primary school, where he took lessons in playing both the recorder and the guitar (in addition to occasionally writing songs of his own).[2]

After graduating from primary school (and having always been more enthusiastic about football), Patrick fell back into music in Summer 1998, towards the end of his time at secondary school (as it was the only class that still had places available when he arrived late on GCSE subject selection day). Nonetheless, it was here that Patrick was formally introduced to composing and writing songs. Making music eventually grew from being a mere hobby into a genuine passion.

Formation (2001)

In April 2001, having noticed a lack of originality in the work of the popular Hip-Hop acts of the time, Patrick took on the moniker of 'Trik' (a stylised shortening of his forename) and began to write and perform Hip-Hop songs of his own. Patrick eventually replaced the name 'Trik' with his initials, P.C.T (because he wanted to show that rather than just being a musical 'act' in a theatrical sense, he was merely being himself).[3]

After developing his knowledge of the music industry during a short period of part-time work as a road assistant / A&R for popular UK-based Hip-Hop DJ Tim Westwood during late 2002, P.C.T continued to develop as a producer. That said, after completing a 6-month music production / business course, "P" finally took up a career within the music industry by establishing an independent record label through which to do so (Danger Money Records).

Danger Money Records (2003 – present)

P.C.T's first unofficial promotional single, "You Know What To Do", was never officially released although it was played by various DJs on numerous underground radio stations during Winter 2004. His second unofficial promotional single, "Danger Money Black Gang Shine" (a collaboration with local producer Poppa Sprinkle) was also never released, even though it was played by various DJs on both underground and commercial radio stations (including DJ 279 and Phoebe One on Choice FM, Dan Greenpeace on XFM and others). The track was also played at the 'Sound' nightclub in Leicester Square, London, during Summer 2005.

P.C.T's third unofficial promotional single (and the first to be digitally released [28 March 2006]), "Block to the Bar", was a collaboration with local producer Dnyce (and local rapper Strategy) which was played by various DJs on a number of underground radio stations.[4]

P.C.T's fourth unofficial promotional single, "Life Is A Gift" (a collaboration with Liverpool artists Defiance, Young Kof and Pyro), was played on commercial radio stations (such as BBC Radio 1Xtra) as well as numerous underground radio stations, further to being released as a free download via all of the featured artists' "MySpace" webpages in Summer 2006.

P.C.T's first official single, "Here We Go (Finally)" was released on 7 May 2007 and the promotional music video for it was played on Sky Digital (UK & Ireland) channels such as Channel U and BEN Television.[5]

P's second official single, "Keep It Gully (v.2)", which was released on 14 January 2008, was played on commercial radio stations by DJs such as Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1 (it was also played by other DJs on various underground radio stations).[6]

P's third official single, "Shooting Star", which was released on 9 June 2008, was played on commercial radio stations such as BBC Radio 1Xtra, as well as various underground radio stations too.[7]

P's fourth official single, "Drift Away", was released on 12 July 2010 (approximately a month after the debut EP from which it was taken, "The Digital Lyrical Miracle EP").

P's fifth official single, "Bubbles Go Bang", which was released on 21 November 2011, was broadcast on commercial radio stations such as Kiss (UK), further to which its video was also aired on television channels such as The Box (UK) and Virgin TV (UK).

P's sixth official single, "My Desire", was released on 20 February 2012, and was played on commercial radio stations such as Kiss (UK), further to which its video was also aired on television stations such as Kiss TV (UK).

Further to all of this, P.C.T has also appeared in numerous press publications such as RWD (July 2010), Touch Magazine (Volume 4 Number 7, April 2007), Whats Poppin (August / September 2006), Invincible Magazine (April–May 2006), StreetCred Magazine, BaseAd et cetera. Additionally, having been on an enforced hiatus from music production since 2012, P.C.T is rumoured to be working on an album trilogy (working title unknown) set for release from 2015 onwards.

Musical style

P.C.T's music has a (musically and lyrically) futuristic quality about it, as a result of both its electronic aesthetic and the avant-garde songcraft/wordplay that underpins it. Its themes include the human experience, the melanine (or 'Motherlandi' [i.e. "black"]) experience, existential aspirations/frustrations etc., all of which are complemented by P's eclectic musical taste (via the inclusion of elements of Reggae / Pop / Classical etc.). That said, P.C.T's music is still easily identifiable / relatable due to his distinctive voice and progressive style of record production.[8]
