Palo Verde High School is a high school in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. The school was built in 1996 with an adjacent 10 portable classrooms located in Summerlin, a rapidly growing affluent suburban community in the western portion of the City of Las Vegas and unincorporated Clark County. The origin of the school's name comes from the surrounding Palo Verde trees. The school's ethnic ratio is 59.4% Caucasian; 11.4% African American; 17.1% Hispanic; 11.5% Asian/Pacific Islander and 0.6% Native American.[1]
The school site includes a College of Southern Nevada (CSN) High Tech Center and an adjacent Parks and Recreation facility, providing the opportunity to develop unique technology and curricular programs.[2]
Fine arts
Palo Verde's Theater caught on fire in 2008, almost destroying it. It has since been rebuilt.
Athletics
The Palo Verde Panthers compete in the Sunset 4A Region of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA). The Varsity Football Team had not lost a regular season game since October 2006 until losing to the Legacy Longhorns during the 2009 season. They lost the 2008 Nevada State Championship Game on December 6, 2008 to McQueen High School with a final score of 13-12.
