Pavel Marozau

Pavel Yahoravich Marozau (Belarusian: Павел Ягоравiч Марозаў, born on October 11, 1978 in Minsk) is a Belarusian civil activist and politician.

Education

Pavel graduated from Belarusian State University of Economics (BSUE) with major in Banking (2000), got a master's degree from BSUE in Finance and Credit (2004), and then obtained master's degree in Political Science from European Humanities University (2004).

Activity

Since 1998 he had been actively involved into volunteering with Belarusian office of Service Civil International (SCI), from 2000 till 2003 he was a member of the Financial Councilors Committee of this organization. After graduation he was working in Priorbank, then going to IT business and realization of the Fostering Opportunities in Belarusian Green Movement project. In 2004 he founded the Third Way community. Pavel Marozau was also the author of the Renaissance Generation concept. Creation of Multclub satirical cartoons about Belarusian life, where characters akin to Lukashenko and his confidants were depicted, led Belarusian authorities to politically motivated persecutions of Pavel. In 2005 he was accused of slandering Belarusian president under the article 367 of the Criminal Code, which provides for punishment of 2 to 4 years in jail. Thanks to interference from international community and press he managed to avoid detention. In 2006 he participated in presidential elections as a member of Alaksandar Kazulin’s team. Since 2006 he has been in political emigration in Estonia after Belarusian authorities’ unsuccessful attempt to arrest him in Minsk.

In 2006 he established and took charge of the New Way for Belarus civic organization, which deals with projects involving the new generation of Belarusian Diaspora in Europe and the United States, as well as activists from Belarus and support of Belarusian culture. Pavel is a member of Rada of Belarusian People’s Republic (BPR’s government in exile) since 2008. He deals with cultural, informational, and youth projects, as well as joining efforts of the new generation of the Diaspora’s Belarusians and civic activists from Belarus. Together with his colleagues he created the concept of broad Belarusian International Movement. In 2009 during the Geneva Summit he, together with his dissident-colleagues from Iran, Burma, Venezuela, Cuba, Zimbabwe, and Egypt founded a coordination and cooperation network between dissidents from these countries.

In 2008 - 2009 he organised several art exhibitions of Belarusian dissident artists under name "Art against Dictatorship" including exhibitions in Estonian parliament, US Congress and Oslo City hall.

In 2009 he founded first political internet-television for Belarus and Russia "ARU TV" in Estonia

In 2009 he founded pro-reform movement "Alliance for reforms in Belarus" which main aim to unite people from Belarus and Belarusian diaspora for modernisation of Belarus.

Lectures and civic involvement

Pavel Marozau is a concept author and implementor of more than 50 projects in the fields of civic activism, information, and culture. He has delivered a number of lectures on situation in Belarus (Woodrow Wilson Center, Kennan Institute, European Doctoral College in Strasbourg, European College of Tartu University, German Marshall Fund in Washington, D.C., the Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C., Carnegie Center in Moscow, Congress Center in Geneva, and others). He is an alumnus of the PACT Leadership Institute (the U.S.A), Fletcher School (the U.S.A.), and German governmental program of Belarusian non-profit sector consultants traineeship in Amsterdam-Maastricht summer university.

Personal life

In 2011 Pavel got married to Olga - Anastasia Marozava.
