Penhow Woodlands National Nature Reserve
Penhow Woodlands National Nature Reserve is a national nature reserve located in south east Wales near the village of Penhow, to the east of Newport.
Three pockets of woodland amidst farmed fields make up the Penhow Woodlands National Nature Reserve. Tucked away in a dry valley north of the village of Magor, it lies close to the England/Wales border. The rich soil of the woods allows a wide variety of plants and flowers to flourish, and in late spring hazes of bluebells cover the ground.
The name Penhow was derived from the Welsh word Pen and How derived from the Old Norse word Haugr meaning hill or mound.[1]
