The Pennsylvania Transportation Institute (PTI), founded in 1968, is a research unit of Penn State University's College of Engineering located in a research complex on the Penn State’s University Park Campus. Since January 2008 its full title has been the Thomas D. Larson Pennsylvania Transportation Institute in recognition of its first director and major benefactor. The institute consists of:

- Vehicle Systems and Safety Program
- Bus Research and Testing Center
- Center for Dirt and Gravel Road Studies
- Mid-Atlantic Universities Transportation Center
- Northeast Center of Excellence for Pavement Technology
