Podara is a census town in Sankrail CD Block under Sankrail police station in Sadar subdivision of Howrah district in the Indian state of West Bengal.[1]
Demographics
As per 2011 Census of India Podara had a total population of 21,589 of which 11,220 (52%) were males and 10,369 (48%) were females. Population below 6 years was 2,143. The total number of literates in Podara was 17,800 (91.54 % of the population over 6 years).[2]
Podara was part of Kolkata Urban Agglomeration in 2011 census.[3]
As of 2001 India census,[4] Podara had a population of 16,806. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Podara has an average literacy rate of 78%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 81%, and female literacy is 73%. In Podara, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.
