Port of Memphis
The Port of Memphis is an active port in Memphis, Tennessee, United States. It is located on President's Island which is a peninsula. It is the second largest inland port on the shallow draft portion of the Mississippi River, and the 4th largest inland Port in the United States and 40th largest port in the United States. The International Port of Memphis covers the Tennessee and Arkansas sides of the Mississippi River from river Mile 725 to mile 740. It has the ability to connect to Sea via the Mississippi River, or by Rail using any of the 5 Class 1 railroads in the city or by Road via I-40, or Air using FedEx.
History
In the Early 1900s the Port was an idea brought up because of the easy access to the river and the transportation boom created by World War I and World War II.[1]
