The Public Interest Institute (PII) is a nonprofit think tank located on the campus of Iowa Wesleyan University in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. The organization advocates for limited government.[2] Its stated goal is to "do research on principles and methods to promote and encourage human rights, economic freedom, economic growth, and the creation of jobs here in Iowa."[3] PII does not advocate for or against specific legislation.[4]
Issues
Public-private pay gap
In a 2011 study, the organization found that Iowa ranks first nationally in the pay gap between state employees and private-sector workers, a position which Iowa has held for 26 years.[5]
Government transparency
PII operates the website IowaTransparency.org which publishes transparency audits of Iowa counties.[6][7]
