Puduvayal is a town in Karaikudi taluk, Sivaganga district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is a small town located in the Chettinad region of the Sivagangai district. On road it is 12 km away from Karaikudi and 21 km away from Aranthangi. This town is famous for its rice mills. Puduvayal is the 2nd largest rice producer in Tamil Nadu. Puduvayal is an important Commercial centre for Trade in Sivaganga district.

Location

This town is situated in Sivagangai District about 10 kilometers from Karaikudi on the Karaikudi-Aranthangi road, Tamil Nadu, India, its geographical coordinates are 13°11′N 80°06′E / 13.19°N 80.10°E / 13.19; 80.10 and its original name (with diacritics) is Puduvāyal. The town is at an altitude of 39 Feet. Puduvayal Pincode is 630108.[1]

The current chairman (from 2016 sep) of puduvayal is Venkatesh.M

Transportation

There is a railway station in the town on the Karaikudi - Mayiladuthurai meter gauge line (at present this section is closed for gauge conversion under Project Unigauge), set up by Thiru. Muthappa Chettiar in the mid 1930s. The town is connected by Road with all important cities. Regular bus services are available from Chennai,(appalai) coimbatore, Karaikudi, Paramakudi, Madurai, Erode, Pattukkottai, Aranthangi, Aalangudi,Devakottai,Sivagangai, Rameshwaram, Embel, Pudukkottai, Peraoorani, Andakudi, Kudikaadu, Pa.Vayal, Jayankondan, Molunboor, Thiruthangoor, Naatucheri, Jayankondan, Peerkalaikadu, Nagoor, Thiruvaroor, Koodaipattanam, Vellakani, kovai, Theni, Nammakal, Thanjaur, Tripur, Kodaikannal, Ooty and other Cities. The town has a large number of rice mills and hence there is a heavy influx of goods carriers.

Sports

Friends Volleyball Club in Puduvayal was founded in 1986. This club hosts tournaments every year where teams from all over India participate. There are too many famous cricket teams are here, King Mini Star, Walls 108 ,Rcc Cricket club(Vethiyankudi) etc. Rcc cricket club is famous cricket team in this area. They hosts cricket tournaments every year.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census[2] males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Puduvayal has an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 81%, and female literacy is 66%. In Puduvayal, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.
