Ranadeep Bhattacharyya (born 20 Sept 1982, Calcutta), is an Indian film writer and director based in Mumbai, co directing with Judhajit Bagchi. Ranadeep is the first Indian filmmaker whose corporate and marketing films have won the International Business Awards (Stevie Award) [1] and Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards.[2][3] Till now he is the only Indian filmmaker to win both the awards consecutively for two years (2015, 2016).[4][5][6][7]


Early life

Ranadeep was born in Kolkata and raised in the historical Danish city of Serampore, West Bengal, India. After passing ICSE from Don Bosco Liluah in 1999, he studied in Holy Home School Serampore, becoming the ISC topper in Humanities in 2001. Ranadeep completed his Bachelors in Geography from Presidency College, Calcutta with a first class degree, acquiring the highest marks in Geography Practical Examination in Calcutta University. In 2006 he passed out from Manipal University as a Gold Medalist for post graduate in MS Communication from Manipal Institute of Communication.

After completing his studies he joined Genesis Films, Mumbai assisting the advertising guru[8] Mr. Prahlad Kakkar from 2006- 2008 working as an Assistant Director on television commercials for renowned brands.[4]

Career

From 2008, Ranadeep started writing and conceptualising television commercials, documentaries and corporate image films for advertising agencies and independent film production houses. In November 2008, he worked with NPA[9] on an international project as a researcher and scriptwriter for a documentary on UNESCO heritage systems of falaj in Oman on behalf of the Oman Ministry of Heritage and Culture. In 2010 he opened his film production house Yaanus Films[10] with Judhajit Bagchi and directed and produced their first short film Amen (2010 film) inspired by the life of equal rights activist Harish Iyer which went on to win the Best Indian Narrative Short at Mumbai Queer Film Festival, Mumbai, 2011 [11] along with playing at major international film festivals.[12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23] Subsequently, he has also made award winning brand films for Tata Chemicals, Allcargo Logistics and Shakti Bhog Foods.[24] Ranadeep also freelances as an independent director and has made advertising films and brand films for Passion Film.[25] In 2015 he won the Silver Dolphin at the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards for the Corporate Image Film for Shakti Bhog Foods Ltd.[26] In 2016 he won his second Dolphin at the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards for the Marketing Film made for the Bareilly-based oil company B.L. Agro Oils.[27][28][29][30][31] Both the films have also won the Gold Stevie Award at the International Business Awards (Stevie Awards).[10][32][33]
Ranadeep also regularly writes on heritage and culture for Heritage India Magazine & the award winning Maharashtra Unlimited magazine.[34]
