Richard James Kane (November 12, 1954 – December 25, 2009) was an American football running back in the National Football League for the Detroit Lions and the Washington Redskins. Kane rushed for 1,486 yards during his NFL career. He played high school football at Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton, California, and college football at the University of Oregon and San Jose State University. Following his football career, he worked in the automotive industry. During 2005, he was involved in a serious motorcycle accident resulting in the loss of one of his legs. He died of complications from pneumonia on December 25, 2009 in Reno, NV.
