The Lehigh Valley Phantoms are a professional ice hockey team in the American Hockey League (AHL), whose inaugural season started in the 2014–15 AHL season when the Adirondack Phantoms moved from Glens Falls, New York to Allentown, Pennsylvania. The team plays in Allentown's new PPL Center.[1] The Phantoms, who began play as the Philadelphia Phantoms, have been the top minor league affiliate for the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers since the 1996–97 season. The purple used since the team's inception was replaced by electric blue when the team relocated to the Lehigh Valley.[1]
In March 2011, plans were announced for the PPL Center. The arena is located in downtown Allentown taking up the entire block between 7th and 8th St. and Hamilton Blvd. and Linden St. Demolition at the arena site began in January 2012.[2]
