Rosy Maze is the fifth album by Canadian artist Marker Starling (Chris A. Cummings) released in 2015.[1]

A Concept album, Rosy Maze features a long list of longstanding Toronto musicians, including Sandro Perri and Ben Gunning. The track "Husbands", has an accompanying music video and has been singled out by various writers in the music press. "...there are shades of Beach Boys baroque pop in the arrangement, while the vocal delivery has traces of David Byrne's off kilter approach." - Robin Murray, Clashmusic.com.[2]

Reception

The album has been met with mostly positive critical reception. Matthew Horton, in his NME review, wrote: "He would probably have more success if this was 1973, where his impossibly plush meld of early solo Paul McCartney melodies and Steely Dan jazz chords would be right at home, but there's still a timeless quality to 'Rosy Maze'. Fuelled by Wurlitzer electric piano, 'Husbands' is a flowing, sun-dappled tale of 'a weekend with the boys', while 'Uphill Battle' and 'Only Speak Your Name' are immaculate, mannered and blessed with killer choruses. Elsewhere, Cummings could almost be Al Green or Curtis Mayfield, finding the smoothest soul in his muso creations."[3]

Recording

Bed tracks were recorded at Rooster Studios, Toronto. Overdubs recorded at Buenos Bandidos Sound. Mastered by João Carvalho at João Carvalho Mastering. The album was produced and mixed by Zack G..
