Russian Seasons

Russian Seasons is the first of three ballets by Alexei Ratmansky, the others being Concerto DSCH and Namouna, A Grand Divertissement. The ballet for six couples is set to the music of the same title by Leonid Desyatnikov for string orchestra, solo violin and soprano, music that passes through the Russian Orthodox liturgical calendar and seasons in its twelve sections. It premiered on June 8, 2006 as part of City Ballet's Diamond Project at the New York State Theater, Lincoln Center, with lighting by Mark Stanley and costumes by Galina Solovyeva, pillbox hats and six strong colors; blue, green, magenta, orange, red and purple.
