The rusty whistler (Pachycephala hyperythra) is a species of bird in the Pachycephalidae family endemic to New Guinea. It is found in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests.
Subspecies
Four subspecies are recognized:[2]
- P. h. hyperythra – Salvadori, 1876: found in New Guinea
- P. h. sepikiana – Stresemann, 1921: found in northern New Guinea
- P. h. reichenowi – Rothschild & Hartert, 1911: found in northeastern New Guinea
- P. h. salvadorii – Rothschild, 1897: found in southeastern New Guinea
