São Sebastião Lighthouse (Portuguese: Farol de São Sebastião), is a lighthouse located in the fortress on the point of Ana Chaves Bay in São Tomé, capital of São Tomé and Príncipe. It is located at Avenuda 12 de Julho. The fortress is now part of the National Museum of History and Art (Museu Nacional de História e Arte)

Description

The lighthouse was built in 1928 and its etymology is Saint Sebastian.

The lighthouse tower is cylindrical and connects with the fort wall , the exterior portion has an iron lantern. The tower is painted black. Its structure is painted black and its lantern and ladder are white.[2]

In 1886, it had a smaller lighthouse, the new tower was built on November 10, 1928. On September 20, 1994, the tower went under remodeling by the Portuguese Navy and opened according to the Luso-Santomean MIlitary Technical Cooperation[3]

The lighthouse is still active today. It is open to the public and visitors can easily climb to the gallery.
