Sam Bavin (born 31 July 1980) is a former Australian ice hockey who played for the Perth Thunder in the Australian Ice Hockey League during the 2012 season and represented Australia at the 2003 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships.
Playing career
Bavin first played for the West Coast Flyers of the Western Australian Ice Hockey Association in 2003.[1] In 2010 he returned to ice hockey rejoining the West Coast Flyers to compete in the Western Australian Super League (WASL).[2] He played solely for the Flyers during the 2010 and 2011 season before signing with the Perth Thunder of the Australian Ice Hockey League for the 2012 AIHL season.[2] During the 2012 season Bavin competed in five games for the Thunder, also competing for the Flyers in the WASL where he competed in 12 games for the season. Near the end of the 2012 WASL season Bavin moved across to the West Coast Lightning where he competed in one game before the season finished.[2] In 2013 Bavin was dropped from the Perth Thunder's list and he returned to play for the Flyers for the 2013 WASL season.[2] He did not re-sign with the Flyers for the 2014 season.[2]
Bavin received his first and only call-up to represent Australia in 2003 where he joined the national senior team to compete in the 2003 IIHF World Championship Division II Group A tournament being held in Seoul, South Korea.[1] Australia finished the tournament in fourth place while Bavin finished with a plus/minus of –2 and failed to record any points.[1]
Personal life
Bavin was born on 31 July 1980.[2] He first started playing ice hockey at the age of three and works full-time as an electrician.[3]
